On Tuesday 12 March the children in Pre-Prep enjoyed a day of TEAMWORK.
In Year 2 the day began with the children working together as a team to complete a puzzle. This task began well enough but soon it was noted some children found it it hard to work together, as some team members wanted to work alone. Mrs Maher talked to the children about the importance of Team Work and used a PowerPoint presentation to illustrate how TEAM stands for Together Everyone Achieves More! The children heard the story of the Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch by Ronda and David Armitage. The purpose of the next activity was to give the children the opportunity to actively discuss a group project, problem solve, then to share their findings with others. They had their turn to listen to the other groups and ask them questions about their findings. The children had to design a basket that was ‘seagull proof’. They explored a range different materials and designs before deciding as a team the design that would work best.
It was fascinating to see how the different teams worked together and in later discussions the children admitted how difficult it had been to work as a team. One child admitted that they could not work in a team. Even sharing ideas can be challenging when children are still learning to listen and value the opinions of others.
