Expression through music, art and drama is central to the self-confidence and self-discovery of our children
Music is extremely important to us at the Oratory Prep. In our Pre-Prep, all children attend Hymn Practice led by our Head of Music, the Early Years children enjoy a weekly music activity, and children in Reception through to Year 2 receive a timetabled music lesson.
Pre-Prep children may also begin to learn to play musical instruments and take singing lessons.
We offer LAMDA as an extra-curricular activity to children in Years 1 and 2, and in our latest results, the children achieved Distinctions across the board.. We also have drama workshops run by visiting drama group ‘Perform’, and three times a year, all of the children from the youngest two year olds showcase their blossoming creative talents by performing on stage in our theatre. Particular highlights are the Harvest assembly and Nativity, which are entertaining and impressive performances enjoyed by family members. The most recent Nativity was opened by children singing a Christmas song in Mandarin, much to the delight of the audience.
Children in Reception upwards enjoy a timetabled dance lesson in our dance studio, while Nursery and Kindergarten children often engage in specialist dance lessons, and take part in movement to music sessions with their class teachers as part of their Physical Development.
We also offer extra-curricular dance, including RAD Ballet, Tap, Modern, Street Dance, and ‘Magical Adventure’ is available as lunchtime and after school activities.
