Headmasters Welcome

Pastoral Care

In our most recent Inspection report the Inspectors commented that here at the Oratory Prep School ‘The arrangements for pastoral care are excellent!’ and they go on to say that ‘all staff demonstrate excellent standards of care for pupils’.

This excellent care is demonstrated in many ways. It is interesting to note that when visitors come to the OPS the first thing they notice is the very happy atmosphere and the wonderful working relationships between staff and pupils. This is no coincidence. The school is lucky to have a dedicated team of educators and support staff who are prepared to go the extra mile to ensure that the children are happy and content.

An excellent tutor system is in place which allows both children and parents to resolve problems quickly and with as little fuss as possible. This means that parents are able to consult staff whenever a problem arises. The children are actively encouraged to seek out their tutor to deal with any hassles that arise. Should these tutors be unable to solve a problem, then members of the Senior Management Team are happy to do so, and they are also available to be seen by parents at convenient times.

PSHE Lessons, special assemblies and themed days devoted to issues that might cause the children concern are held regularly. Organisations, such as the NSPCC, are also invited to come into the school to deliver workshops on a range of subjects. Plus, various groups of children have also been taken to participate in courses outside of school.

The all important School Council works tirelessly to bring the attention of children’s issues to the Senior Management Team  and the Headmaster. Regular meetings are held and often staff members are called before Council to participate and take questions. The School Council is very active in food matters and meet on a regular basis with the Catering team to ensure pupils views on the food are heard.

We like to think that the OPS is a happy, thriving school and that we take our Pastoral duties very seriously. But do not take our word for it, come and see for yourself.
