RAF Talk To Year 2

As part of their ‘Up, Up and Away’ thematic topic, Year 2 were delighted to invite Squadron leader Ben ‘Mac’ MacGillivray to talk about the highs, lows and all it takes to be a pilot in the RAF.

The children were stunned to learn about how many years it takes to become a pilot, how hard it is to refuel in the air, how when flying a helicopter you can’t have a snack even if you’ve been up in the air for hours, as well as getting to ask many of their own questions. Ben even shared some of his own stories including photos of the helicopters he has flown and allowed the children to all try on his helmet.

Such curiosity was shown by all the children and it was the most perfect morning to close our topic and perhaps inspire some pilots of the future.
