LAMDA at Oratory Prep: Speech, Drama and Confidence
At The Oratory Prep School, we offer pupils the chance to take part in LAMDA Speech and Drama coaching from Year 2 upwards. These sessions go far beyond performance. They help children find their voice, express themselves clearly and build confidence in front of others.
LAMDA (the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) offers a well-regarded programme of graded exams in both Acting and Communication. Pupils can choose to focus on public speaking, reading aloud, verse and prose, or performance skills.
In lessons, children learn how to:
-
Explore texts, both modern and classical, with imagination and understanding
-
Develop vocal and physical skills including posture, diction, tone and projection
-
Prepare and deliver short speeches, presentations and performances
-
Listen closely and respond thoughtfully to others
-
Gain confidence in sharing ideas and opinions aloud
These skills naturally support the work pupils do across the curriculum. They promote wider reading, encourage critical thinking, and help children become more fluent, expressive writers.
LAMDA lessons are tailored to the interests and needs of each child. Whether working on a poem, speech or dramatic monologue, pupils are supported by experienced tutors who know how to build trust and bring out the best in them.
In the current academic year, our pupils have achieved 33 Distinctions and 2 Merits in their LAMDA exams. Pupils working towards Grade 6 and above also earn UCAS points.
