What Others Say : Why Independent Reviews and Reports matter when choosing a school

Choosing the right school is one of the most important decisions a family makes. While prospectuses and open days offer a glimpse of school life, independent reviews and inspection reports reveal much about the day-to-day experience for pupils, teaching quality and the values that underpin a school community. At The Oratory Prep School we’re proud that what others say reflects the warmth, ambition and care that define our community.

Earlier this year our ISI inspection recognised a “significant strength”. These are not easily awarded and we are justifiably proud of an outstanding report which we received in February 2025. The inspectors highlighted: “Leaders focus on prioritising pupils’ academic and personal growth successfully so that pupils receive highly effective education and care. This is a significant strength. Leaders have high aspirations for all and have successfully developed a culture where pupils have faith in themselves.”

Beyond inspection findings we were delighted to be recognised in the 2025 Muddy Stilettos Best Schools Awards winning the Best Learning Support category and being Highly Commended for Brilliant Boarding. These awards are testamanet to the breadth of care and community we provide for every child.

Our Good School’s Guide review captures our spirit perfectly: “OPS is very clear about who it is and where it’s going. It prepares children for a rapidly changing future by rooting them in school tradition while giving them the confidence to try new ways of thinking, doing and being.”

Talk Education visited us in 2024 and also they too found us to be forward-thinking: “Curiosity is the cornerstone of learning here [] tackling topics through enquiring questions rather than teachers telling pupils what’s what.”

When prospective families get in touch with us we always encourage them to take time to read our inspection report, explore these independent reviews and speak to current parents in the OPS community. These perspectives provide valuable insight into our school’s true character.
