Our approach in faith builds directly on the vision of Saint John Henry Newman, who understood that real learning flourishes through genuine connection, empathy, and mutual respect. His famous motto, Cor Ad Cor Loquitur (“Heart speaks unto heart”), shapes daily life and relationships at The Oratory Prep School.
While we are rooted in our Catholic heritage, we are also proud to be a welcoming community for families of all faiths, traditions and non-religious backgrounds. Whether our pupils are collecting for food banks, taking part in eco-projects on our grounds, or supporting causes close to their hearts, they learn that having good values means taking active care of the world around them.
Space to Discuss, Question and Explore
We want our pupils to leave us with confident, enquiring minds. That growth happens through open debate, reflection and healthy discussion.
In the classroom, during small tutor group times and through RE lessons, pupils explore big ethical and philosophical questions. We encourage them to talk about what it means to make good choices, how to show empathy and how to navigate complex situations.
Crucially, we create a safe environment where every child feels comfortable sharing their own worldview. We do not expect every pupil to arrive at the same conclusions. Instead, we teach them how to express their own beliefs clearly while listening to others with genuine respect.
A Community of Belonging
School life gives our pupils space to pause, reflect and appreciate the world around them. Through assemblies, quiet moments and shared traditions, we regularly step back from the busy timetable to come together as a whole community.
Our spiritual life is warmly supported by our local parish priest, Fr. Ken, who is a familiar and friendly face around the school. Visiting us regularly for chapel services and everyday school life, Fr. Ken brings faith to life in a fun and engaging way. He loves taking questions from the children, encouraging their natural curiosity and making chapel a welcoming space for open, honest conversation.
We guide our pupils to explore their faith, question deeply and build a strong moral framework. Therefore, when it is time for their next step, they leave us not just academically prepared, but as kind, open-minded young people with a clear sense of purpose.
