On Thursday 26th May, pupils at The Oratory Prep School took part in a day of celebration to mark The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee 2022.
Children from Nursery through to Year 8 attended school dressed in an array of red, white and blue, and took part in a variety of Jubilee themed activities alongside a whole school tea party and a special flypast and landing from Royal Air Force Benson.
During the morning, Nursery to Year 4 participated in activities including a Jubilee themed Forest School, party games and a Perform drama workshop about The Queen. The swimming pool was transformed into a tropical island complete with inflatable flamingos and pupils enjoyed a fun swim. Children were also invited to enter the school’s ‘Jubilee Crown’ competition to design their own crown, decorative hat, or accessory.
Pupils in Years 5 to 8 took part in a variety of themed activities, each representing a different country in the Commonwealth. In the Science department, children made volcanic rocks (honeycomb) to celebrate Cyprus, while in Art they painted their own Malaysian batik. Pupils also created their own New Zealand inspired haka, sugar drawing in Barbados, jewellery making in Ghana, and food tasting in South Africa including crocodile!
In the afternoon, pupils and staff came together for a tea party by the pavilion where children of all ages took part in the school’s inaugural ‘Heads and Tails’ competition, followed by a parade of the ’Jubilee Crown’ competition entries. Teachers Mrs Longland and Mrs Reed led pupils in a performance of the National Anthem before all eyes turned to the sky as the school received a very special visit from RAF Benson in the shape of a flypast and landing of a RAF Puma Helicopter. After touching down on the sports field, a member of 33 Squadron presented a plaque to Headmaster, Mr Rob Stewart, to commemorate Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
