Future Schools

An Oratory Prep School education is much more than simply what takes place in the classroom, it is about unlocking a child’s experiences, their learning journey, and about their part in our school, and indeed, the wider community. In this information booklet, you will find out more about the opportunities and experiences open to our Year 7 and 8 pupils as they embark on their last two years of Preparatory Education here at The OPS.

Years 7 and 8 are pivotal in a child’s development, marking the first step toward independence. We provide a safe, supportive environment where pupils grow academically, socially and emotionally, equipping them with confidence and self-awareness for their senior school journey. Our Future Schools Programme ensures that each child is meticulously prepared for the transition to senior school. From online testing and interview practice to targeted work with practice papers, we provide comprehensive support for both pupils and their parents. The Leadership Programme takes this a step further for our Year 8 pupils. Designed to nurture entrepreneurial spirit, teamwork and strategic thinking, it provides a unique platform for pupils to develop and apply their leadership skills. From fulfilling prestigious roles such as Head Boy and Head Girl to leading as House Captains, Prefects, and Presidents of the School Council, our pupils carry out their responsibilities with great pride and a sense of purpose. This comprehensive approach, combining academic preparation with pastoral support, ensures that pupils leave us as confident, compassionate, and capable leaders. Many go on to secure places at some of the most prestigious and selective senior schools in the country, ready to embrace the future with enthusiasm and determination.

“Years 7 & 8 at Prep schools are such crucial years. Children should be able to make academic progress with minimal pressure and this is important. However, far more important, in our opinion, is what they learn about themselves as learners, as a friend to others, and as a person. This is the first major stage in a journey to full independence that will continue at Senior school. Starting this journey in a safe and supportive environment (in which the children are fully comfortable) at The Oratory Prep is as good as it gets.” Director of Admissions, Wellington College
