Prep Music, Drama & Art

The Arts are a key part of school life, helping our pupils build confidence, express themselves and work together. Our inclusive approach means everyone, no matter their experience or ability, has the chance to shine. We are proud of our excellent teachers who nurture talent and inspire a lifelong love of the arts. In 2024, we were highly commended in the Muddy Stilettos Schools Awards for Dynamic Performing Arts, a testament to our vibrant programme.

Music

Music at The Oratory Prep School is taught with the aim of developing the enjoyment of the subject within every child, whether as a performer, listener or composer. We have a purpose-built music department complete with a suite of practice rooms, a large rehearsal room with a vast array of instruments and a music tech room. Pupils have the opportunity to learn instruments, join choirs and instrumental groups. Every term we enjoy concerts showcasing the abilities of our pupils and parents have many occasions to watch their children perform.

Drama

We make the most of our modern theatre with its large stage, 300-seater auditorium and state of the art sound and lighting systems. This is home to weekly drama lessons giving pupils a platform to build confidence and step out of their comfort zone to take on roles that will extend and challenge them on stage. We encourage creativity and collaboration as our drama productions are pupil-led both on stage and off. Dance and Lamda lessons further enhance self-expression and confidence, with outstanding results, including numerous distinctions and scholarships.

Art

The Art Department is guided by the mantra Explore, Experiment and Express. Every child has a unique creative voice and we provide a rich variety of opportunities to help them discover it. Pupils are fortunate to have access to an exceptional range of artistic disciplines from ceramics, sculpture and painting to screen printing, street art and textiles which allows them to develop diverse creative skills and techniques. The wider school community is deeply supportive of the arts and throughout the year we host numerous events that celebrate creativity and collaboration across departments. Our Art Scholarship programme further enriches talented pupils with additional opportunities, including off-site trips designed to inspire and challenge their artistic development. Above all, we aim to nurture not only excellence but also the imagination and freedom of expression that lie at the heart of every young artist.
