RE

RE lessons follow the Curriculum set out by the Diocese. In order for each child to develop their beliefs, issues between and within faiths are explored. Pupils also study other faiths in order both to gain a deeper understanding of faith and develop a respect for followers of different religions.

Children attend Mass regularly and on solemn feast days. Assemblies are held throughout the week and daily prayers are said.

To broaden the understanding and respect for the Catholic faith, pupils learn about our founder, Saint John Henry Newman and visit The International Centre of Newman Friends at Littlemore, Oxford. We prepare Catholic pupils for the sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion.

As part of their broader cultural and spiritual development pupils undertake trips to Douai Abbey, Dorchester Abbey, The Birmingham Oratory, the Reading Sikh Gurdwara and the Reading Synagogue for trips. Pupils in Year 7 go to Rome for five days for a cultural and spiritual trip, gaining an understanding of the origins of the Oratorians.
