Junior parkrun is Coming to The Oratory Prep School!
We are delighted to share some exciting news! The Oratory Prep School is working towards launching a brand-new junior parkrun on our beautiful 65-acre school grounds.
Junior parkrun is a free, fun and friendly 2km event for children aged 4 to 14, held every Sunday morning. Children can walk, jog, run or skip their way around the course at their own pace. It’s not about being the fastest or finishing first, but about getting outdoors, being active and having fun with friends and family.
At The Oratory Prep School, we are passionate about encouraging children to lead healthy, active lives and making the most of the wonderful outdoor space we have. Hosting a junior parkrun is a fantastic opportunity to bring local families together, welcome the wider community onto our school grounds and inspire children to enjoy exercise from an early age.
A parkrun for the Whole Community
Although the event will take place at The Oratory Prep School, junior parkrun will be open to everyone, not just OPS pupils. We hope to welcome families from across the local area, whether they are regular parkrunners or trying it for the very first time.
There is no pressure to run the whole distance, and children of all abilities are encouraged to take part. It’s a wonderful way to start a Sunday morning!
Can You Help Us Get Started?
Junior parkrun is entirely volunteer-led, and we are looking for enthusiastic members of our school and local community to help bring this exciting event to life.
We are particularly keen to find a couple more Run Directors, an important role that helps ensure each event runs smoothly and safely.
Being a Run Director doesn’t mean giving up every Sunday morning. With a good team of volunteers, the commitment could be as little as once every couple of months or even once a term. Full support and training will be provided.
There will also be plenty of other opportunities to volunteer, from marshalling and helping at the finish line to cheering on our young runners.

We can’t wait to see children and families enjoying our grounds on Sunday mornings and to become part of the wonderful parkrun community.
